Hats: Sized “to fit an average head”; no head measurement specified.

Socks: Four foot lengths: 7, 8, 9 and 10 inches (approximately 18, 20, 23 and 25 cm).

Yarn: 4 ply for the socks; hats use three strands of 4 ply together, or double knitting yarn combined with Emu Filigree.

Hat materials: 3 balls of 4 ply, or 1 ball each of three colours; alternatively, 2 balls of DK plus 2 balls of Filigree. One button per hat.

Sock materials: 3, 4, 5 or 6 balls of 4 ply, depending on size.

Needles: Original UK sizes 2 for hats; 11 and 12 for white socks; 12 for pink socks.

Construction: Worked flat and seamed.
